The best feature of Mate X2 is that it is a foldable smartphone. You can use it as a tablet-class 8-inch smartphone by opening the screen, and as a 6.45-inch smartphone when folded . The screen resolutions are 2,780 x 2,200 pixels and 2,700 x 1,160 pixels, respectively. Both adopt an organic EL display, and the refresh rate is 90Hz. As a system-on-chip (SoC), it is equipped with the company's Kirin 9000, with 8GB of RAM and a 4,400mAh battery. The rear camera consists of 4 cameras including a 10x optical zoom camera.

The operating system (OS) is equipped with Android 10 based EMUI 11.0. However, due to sanctions from the United States, Google's apps and services cannot be used. It seems that Mate X2 has a plan to be updated to Harmony OS, which is Huawei's original OS, in April . The price is 17,999 Chinese yuan (about 2,785 dollars, about 292,411 yen) for the model with 256GB of storage, and 18,999 Chinese yuan (about 2,940 dollars, about 308,679 yen) for the 512GB model. The Mate X2 will be available in China on February 25th, but its overseas release is unknown. Huawei has information that parts orders for smartphones in 2021 will decrease by more than 60% compared to 2020.
